City of Pinellas Park
The City of Pinellas Park asked us to upgrade its information
systems infrastructure for the ensuing five years. This upgrade
would include a migration to a new AS/400-720 for production
applications and installation of new AS/400-170s. One AS/400-170
supports emergency dispatching systems, while the other functions
as a Lotus Domino Server and firewall for the City's Internet
access.
We installed six Netfinity servers to support an environment of
two-hundred network stations. The network stations replaced
terminals, otherwise known as "Green screens," and older PCs. One
hundred of the newer existing PCs were configured to use Citrix
Metaframe ICA client software to provide thin-client
functionality.
Rolling out this application allowed The City to take advantage
of network-wide load balancing, global access to all applications
and centrally-controlled desktop support. The ability to perform
such services from a central controlled site significantly lowered
Pinellas Park's overall cost of desktop processing.
